Yes, Virginia, yesterday’s #ElfkinCollection trunk show was indeed a success! Got lots of new eyes on my fashions, made some sales, looked fierce. What I’m most proud of were the folks who told me how it didn’t feel like a typical #fashion event but instead was very body inclusive and approachable.

In 1955, photographer Ken Russell captured a striking image of "The Last of the Teddy Girls," documenting a unique subculture in post-war Britain. The Teddy Girls, or "Judies," were the female counterparts to the Teddy Boys, a youth movement known for its sharp, Edwardian-inspired style and defiance of social norms. Emerging in the 1950s, the Teddy Girls rejected conventional femininity, donning tailored jackets, rolled-up jeans, neck scarves, and masculine brogues. Their bold fashion choices symbolized a rebellion against societal expectations in a time of rapid cultural change.
This subculture was deeply intertwined with Britain’s socio-economic landscape after World War II. Many Teddy Girls came from working-class backgrounds, their aesthetic a mix of thrifted pieces and hand-me-downs, creatively repurposed into distinctive outfits. Despite living in economically challenging conditions, they used fashion as a means of self-expression and defiance. Unlike the more publicized Teddy Boys, the Teddy Girls remained relatively obscure, and Russell’s photographs offered a rare glimpse into their world, showcasing their independence, camaraderie, and resilience.
Ken Russell’s documentation of the Teddy Girls is a vital historical record, preserving the spirit of a movement that challenged gender norms and class boundaries. His images highlight a forgotten chapter of British youth culture, revealing how these young women used style to assert their identity and navigate a changing post-war society. Today, the Teddy Girls are celebrated as pioneers of alternative fashion and feminist rebellion, their influence visible in the evolving landscape of youth subcultures and gender expression.

What do you all think of the new Valentino?

For all its narrative, it still rings hollow for me.

And, no, campaign storytelling does not equate content strategy.

Miss Tweed says she knows why people aren’t buying this Valentino update.

Normies come in two varieties here, both following a colour palette that blends with the average Dutch brick wall.

  1. Jeans, uggs/adidas, t-shirt, hoodie and puffer jacket.
  2. Jeans, boots, college sweater and beige or green coat.

Comparatively, my ideal aesthetic is medieval :neocat_melt:

Fashion in ‘North of North’ has generated a lot of comment in social media.

I’ve noticed that many of these come with assumptions about what women would be wearing in Inuit communities, and a lack of understanding of the importance of sustainable design in Inuit culture.

CBC has a great feature with interviews with the show’s creators on the point.

‘The show's emphasis on slow fashion ran counter to a film industry that often operates on a quicker schedule.

"Nothing here is mass-made," Aglok MacDonald said. "So it really is going out to independent artists who are just crafting a few things here and there and seeing if they could put in a bulk order."’

This is what I call a chainmail panel top, or crop top. It is composed of front and back panels of European 4 in 1 chainmail attached by sets of chain straps. The panels are made from large anodized aluminum rings, while the straps are made from smaller bright aluminum rings. The front panel has a subtle taper at the bottom, while the back panel stops abruptly. The shoulder and armpit straps provide security, and the waist strap is primarily for decoration. There are no clasps on this piece and it is intended to go on and off over the head. This results in no adjustability and a smaller range of body types that it will fit, so finding a way to make this adjustable would be beneficial. #chainmail #chainmaille #armor #maker #crafts #fashion #aluminum #croptop

Can someone please tell me what’s the thing with this brand „scuffers“?

There is a store right across the hotel here and whenever the store is open, there is a long queue of young people waiting to be let in.

They’re only allowed to enter, when a salesperson (who also seem really young to me) is free to take care of them.

The clothing i see from the outside looks like hoodies in weird colors.

I never heard of them before. I suspect it to be a tiktok thing 🤔.

I also wanted to show off my jewelry today! The collar is actually an arm cuff for a bear that I bought before I knew I was trans at Mr S Leathers in SF. OK, I'm done with fashion for today, I promise :3
