Latest findings of the KATRIN experiment at @KIT_Karlsruhe indicate that neutrinos are at least a million times lighter than electrons, the lightest electrically charged elementary particles. #MainzUniversity contributed to this international collaboration by analyzing datasets, characterizing plasma systematics, taking shifts to gather new data, and maintaining critical detector hardware. 👉 press.uni-mainz.de/neutrinos-a

The visceral reaction I had to the "Ambush in the Oval Office" and my sustained search for understanding has led me to recall a 1979 discussion with a friend who eventually became a professor in Sociology. I do recall Weber and his writings on Power and Politics. Science does not operate in a vacuum. The exercise of power is all around us. I briefly held a postion in student politics back then. "Everything is politics" was a claim made by one of my committee members.

This book is on the impossibly long list of "distractions" cambridge.org/highereducation/

Had to convince the language editor of my paper that "resting mass energy" is not equivalent to "rest-mass energy", it was tough.

[I mean: the language editor wanted to replace all "my" rest-mass energy with resting mass energy, and so I had to ask them to replace everything with the only possible formulation which was originally there..]

#Physics Did you know... in the SI system of units

(the one we all use. Yes, USians too - feel free to ask)

if a unit is named after a person it has, or at least starts with, a capital letter as its symbol e.g.

N (newtons), Bq (Becquerels) etc.

whereas we have:

m (metres) and s (seconds) etc.

which are not named after someone.

However, as you can see above, if you spell out the unit, e.g. newtons, you should use a lower case first letter so as not to confuse it with their name.
