How to grow and harvest tulsi (Omicum tenuiflorum)
Balcony farming
The tools required for growing salad are simple. A reasonable sized plastic tray with good drainage holes and a basic growing compost...
Worst grapes ever!
Some of the doomsday prepping I undertook in 2020 appears to have come good: here's our first harvest of olives. I would have liked to leave them on the tree longer, but the king parrots had other ideas.
Makeshift greenhouses doing the job. Finally have lettuce, spinach, carrots, and radishes sprouting. #gardening #GrowYourOwn
@Likewise Great advice ! I am down that road too: low carb chocoholic (now moving on to cocoa nibs) with 6 hours of feed window 5 days a week.
I am 58 years old and insulin resistant. The above nutritional changes plus 40 min of strenght/cardio training every other day, have given me a new lease on life.
My own two bits: walnuts, pecanas, macadamias and avocado provide a lot of healty fats and Omega3/6 balance. When taken at the end of the feeding window, they make the 18 hr fast a piece of... err meatpie !
I also make my own cannabinoid extracts. Non psychotropic ones such as cannabinol CBN (main CB2 receptor agonist) and CBD from flower (no hemp) help regulate blood sugar, stabilize mood and protect my liver, spleen colon and pancreas.
Gladly surprised to find your testimony as health does not seem to be a priority for mastodon people...

Awwww, lovely ^.^
(Well, Weedy, actually you wouldn't need ANY money at all. Just organize a community based on mutual help. There is no need for money. We will get there, don't worry ^.^)
Got frost?
Since it might freeze tonight I put the lids on the plastic jars that are protecting these lettuce transplants. The jars help protect the small plants from being battered by the wind and I like to think they might help keep slugs off. The jars originally had mixed nuts and I cut the bottoms off.
Also in the pic are Walla Walla onions that were started from seed last fall and overwintered in the greenhouse before being transplanted into this raised bed.

The Brooks plum, Comice pear, and Bosc pear will bloom this year. They were planted last spring. Not sure if I can keep any fruit on the pears, but the plum should be able to support a few fruit.
Planting asparagus crowns in the hope that we all still exist in three years time. Lol. Lol. Sigh.
Another project finished in the garden. We have added one more raised bed with a retractable working table. Very handing to work on small jobs like seeding. All the wood material for the build has been up cycled, scavenged pallets and board from the streets near our place, plus leftover from other projects.
A lovely visit from a nearby Punjabi person I have met a few times. Nice to share my garden with her - perennial tulsi cuttings, annual tulsi seeds, a doddapatre cutting that has been sitting in water and has roots, some basil seeds. And goregous to chat with her 2 year old, whom I first met as a newborn baby.
I miss having foodies around me that I can share my crazy experiments and food with. Around here it is mainly English-meal-meat-and -3-veg people. Even my friends, while more adventurous with food, actually don't cook much, and so sending over pickles or ferments, or even veg or dried herbs, is a waste of time.
I think it is an Adelaide thing. Conservative.
@Minimus A lot of beings are celebrating the first dandelion blossoms with you. #growyourown, #pollinators
Things are going quite well The plants seem to be quite happy in the small indoor greenhouse. The tomatoes are seeking to catch even more light and are growing fast
Salad season
Over the next few weeks is the perfect salad season, just after the winter chill has passed and before the summer heat arrives...

Don’t cry Penelope, please… just because that crazy manic asshole JDV announced he is going to tariff catnip and Treat ingredients at 104% doesn’t mean it will ever happen, we OWN social media.
One of this years projects was to create a raised bed high enough to avoid the dreaded carrot fly. By pure luck I was gifted this plastic tool store that is the perfect height. I have reinforced the sides to help prevent it bulging with a metal bar, secured through to the outside with a short length of oak off-cut. The lid will come off but can be put back on when empty. I do hope it works, fingers crossed for some beautiful carrots this season!
